Kaylyn Evans, MA, LPC, RPT™, NCC
Certified in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy
Specialities: Kids and Teens with Anxiety and OCD, as well as, kids ages 1-10 with Disruptive Behaviors
Training and Experience: I earned my Bachelor’s Degree at Southwestern University in Biology and Psychology and my Master’s Degree in Professional Counseling at Texas State University. I’ve been fortunate in my career to receive specialty training in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), an evidence-based therapy for families of children with big behaviors and diagnoses such as Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD). I also provide Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE), a therapy designed to work with parents to reduce the effect of anxiety and OCD on families. I have experience working with children, adolescents, and families in a variety of settings including elementary schools, community agencies, and private practice. I have experience working with anxiety, ADHD, parenting skills, emotion regulation, adjustment issues, and externalizing behaviors (tantrums, big emotions).
Approach: In individual therapy, I practice from two areas - Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Play Therapy. When we put those together (Cognitive Behavioral Play Therapy), we create an environment that meets kids in the most developmentally appropriate way we know of (through PLAY!) and we work toward building skills, improving confidence, and practicing bravery. My role is to work closely with families to help create an individualized plan to meet their needs. I work toward providing trauma-informed, anti-racist, and LGBTQIA2S+-affirming counseling at all times.
Outside of work, I enjoy reading, cooking, and hanging out with my family. When it comes to taking care of myself, I’ve always been drawn to water. Put me in a pool, lake, river or ocean and I am content.
